Dispatcher

Assistance booking resources such as artists, venues, travel, transportation, equipment, materials, transportation, and more

Bokare StagePool

Dispatcher is an assistant profession found in many areas of the entertainment industry, responsible for booking many different types of resources for a production.

What is the job of dispatchers?

In a production, there are usually many different resources such as equipment, materials, personnel, transportation, services, and guests that need to be booked and ordered. You usually need to contact other companies and agencies to book resources for a production. You may be a booker for artists, contacting agents to book artists for scheduled television productions and festivals, for example. You can also work on booking travel, equipment, transportation and hauling for a touring production.

What do dispatchers need to know?

Dispatchers should be outgoing, able to easily find and contact the right people, and enjoy making phone calls. You should be a good problem solver, a "people person," a persistent "persuader," and a "jack of all trades" to get what you want. You should have very good organizational skills and like to have many irons in the fire. As a dispatcher you will work with many others in the production team, so you should be a good communicator and mediator.
